Charlotte Regional Partnership continues recruiting internationally

When US Airways’ new nonstop flight to Paris takes off from Charlotte on Saturday, the Charlotte Regional Partnership will be on board. The Partnership’s Executive Vice President Kenny McDonald, along with Chris Platé and Scott Millar, directors of Monroe Economic Development and the Catawba County Economic Development Corporation, respectively, are heading to the City of Light to further the region's international business connections in the energy and medical device industries.

“The Charlotte Regional Partnership has been especially targeting companies in the energy/environment and health/life sciences, in addition to the defense/security sectors for more than a year,” said Ronnie Bryant, the Partnership’s president and CEO. “We believe that these industries are sustainable and offer growth potential for the long term.”

Lake Norman Regional Medical Center Employee Recognized for Life-Saving Actions

Mooresville, NC --- Kathleen “Cathy” Irwin, Medical/Surgical Nursing Unit Secretary, was recently recognized in April by the Lake Norman Regional Medical Center’s Physician Leadership Council for outstanding customer service excellence.  An award presented to hospital employees identified for going above and beyond, Irwin is the Council’s first recipient.  

In February, Cathy Irwin responded to a visitor’s call for help when her sister, who was visiting a patient, lost consciousness.  Irwin immediately called a code and began CPR until the Code Team of physicians and nurses arrived.    According to Ms. Linda Ingle, who Irwin is credited with saving, “Cathy gave me my life back.”  She’s my little angel.”  Both Ms. Ingle and her sister, Ms. Evelyn Bollinger, are extremely grateful to Irwin for her life-saving actions.

Charlotte Regional Partnership markets to the Midwest

On the heels of a successful marketing trip to the West Coast, the Charlotte Regional Partnership is taking on the Midwest.

The end of March, David Swenson, the Partnership’s vice president of economic services, visited more than a dozen site location advisors, clients and companies in the L.A. and San Francisco area. As a result of those contacts, half of those companies have expressed a strong interest in the 16-county Charlotte region.

Pfeiffer University students bring home awards from state business competition

APRIL 9, 2009 -- Several Pfeiffer University students took home awards during the 55th Annual State Leadership Conference (SLC) of the North Carolina State Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) held last week in Charlotte.

PBL is a national association of college and university students who are interested in careers in business. During the conference 336 PBL members, advisors and Professional Division members were in attendance representing most of the 36 N.C. chapters.

Students attended seminars and general assemblies for the state chapter and local region, and participated in competitive events that included objective tests, presentations and interviews.  Pfeiffer students were recognized during the formal banquet for placing in eight competitive events.  Those students were:

Charlotte Regional Partnership forum looks at what’s next in economic development

Daily forecasts by leading economists look for signs that economic clouds are rolling back. However, some of the best predictions come from the people who talk with expanding and locating companies on a daily basis.

The Charlotte Regional Partnership will host N.C. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Dale Carroll and Daniel Young, S.C. director of grants and incentives and the executive director of the S.C. Coordinating Council at its April 15 Investors Forum, “What’s next for economic development – two states’ perspectives.”

HOPE HOUSE FOUNDATION NAMED AS A BENEFICIARY OF THE JETTON PARK SPRINT TRIATHLON

Huntersville, N.C. (April 8, 2009) – Hope House Foundation announced that it has been selected as one of the two non-profits to benefit from the proceeds of the inaugural Jetton Park Sprint Triathlon to be held on Saturday, May 9. The other non-profit is Ace & TJ’s Grin Kids. Both organizations provide services to children residing in the Lake Norman area.
 
Staring at 8:00 a.m., the sprint triathlon will include a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride and a 5-kilometer run.  Participation is limited to the first 500 entries. In addition to the triathlon, there will be food, prizes and a silent auction. Volunteers are still needed to help with the event and participants have until May 6 to register on-line. The website for the triathlon is www.jettontri.com. The event was founded and organized by Jeff and Sheila Wakeman of Wakeman Charities, Inc.

Pfeiffer offers ways to cope during difficult times with stress workshop April 21

APRIL 2, 2009 – For many, 2009 started as a particularly stressful year. As the economy worsens, stress levels are steadily on the rise. Countless individuals and families face feelings of anxiety resulting from job loss or retirement savings, or from the loss of a loved one, a family conflict or simply the stressors of daily life. To help people better cope with stress, the Pfeiffer Institute at Pfeiffer University will host a “Dealing with stress during difficult times” workshop on Tuesday, April 21.

This session, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Pfeiffer’s Charlotte campus, 4701 Park Rd.
