Lowe's comes Through For Jerry's Kids
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 8, 2009 — Representatives from Lowe’s presented a check for $4.3 million raised by employees and customers to the Muscular Dystrophy Association during its 44th annual Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon this weekend.

The contribution was delivered to MDA National Chairman and Telethon star Jerry Lewis during the famous 21 ½-hour broadcast by Dennis Knowles, Lowe’s senior vice president of store operations.

Legendary entertainer and MDA National Chairman Jerry Lewis said, "Not only did Lowe's this year become the largest single Shamrocks Against Dystrophy retailer in history, they continually support my kids year-round. Thanks to Lowe’s commitment to ‘build something together’ with MDA, we are able to offer vital programs like medical clinics, research and summer camps to the people we serve.”

Lowe’s has more than 1675 stores and has been an MDA national sponsor for two years. Its employees and customers have raised money for the Association through MDA’s Shamrocks Against Dystrophy program and Stride & Ride program. In addition, Lowe’s has held Build and Grow clinics for children attending MDA summer camps. For more information on these programs, please visit http://mda.org/help/natevents.html.

The funds raised by Lowe’s are in addition to the $60.5 million in pledges and contributions received from the public during the Telethon.

About 40 million viewers watched the 2009 Telethon via MDA’s “Love Network” of 180 television stations. The broadcast also was available online at www.mda.org, courtesy of RealNetworks and for the first time, social media followers of MDA’s Twitter, Facebook and YouTube sites were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the show during the broadcast.

“Lowe’s employees have a commitment to excellence and caring that goes beyond the walls of our stores,” said Mike Brown, Lowe’s executive vice president, store operations. “It means a lot to know that our partnership with MDA helps children enjoy summer camps, receive vital services and, hopefully, will one day soon lead to treatments and a cure for muscular dystrophy.”
